Mission Statement

(Approved by the membership on January 10, 2021)

The Society for the Teaching of Psychology promotes excellence in the teaching and learning of psychology. The Society provides resources and services, access to a global collaborative community, and opportunities for professional development. It endeavors to promote equity and social justice for teachers and students of psychology with marginalized, racially minoritized, and intersecting identities. The Society also strives to advance the scholarship of teaching and learning; advocate for the needs of teachers of psychology; promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives within the teaching and learning of psychology; foster partnerships across academic settings; and increase recognition of the value of the teaching profession.

    Travel, Awards, Stipends, and Honoraria Info

      Please review STP's Travel Reimbursement Guidelines before travel. 

      To receive payment or reimbursement, please submit the following documents to the STP Treasurer using the link below. Travel reimbursement requests must be made within 45 days of travel.

        • A brief document that includes your name, postal address, email address, phone number, and the name of the award or the reason for the stipend, honorarium, or travel reimbursement
        • Direct Deposit Form. If you have previously submitted this form to the STP Treasurer and there are no changes, there is no need to resubmit.
        Additionally, for travel reimbursement
          • Travel Expense Form (on the Dropbox page, click the download button in the top right corner)
          • Receipts for all expenses; each receipt must clearly indicate the payment method, e.g., credit card, cash. Note that STP reimburses for reasonably priced meals but does not reimburse for alcohol. 
          • Documentation for mileage reimbursement, e.g., a screenshot of a Google map showing the distance between locations
        Additionally, for stipends and honoraria
        • Fill out and submit a W-9 form. If you have previously submitted this form to the STP Treasurer and there are no changes, there is no need to resubmit.

      After submitting your request, please retain all original receipts and documentation until payment or reimbursement is received (typically within 4-6 weeks).

      Contact Information

      STP functions as Division 2 of the American Psychological Association (APA) but welcomes to full membership those who have no APA affiliation. It is not necessary to belong to APA in order to be a member of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology.
